Oh heyyy everyone! It’s January and January is one of my favorite times of the year. It’s the month of resolutions. The month of new beginnings. The month of juice cleanses.
For me that translates to trying new things and getting out of my recent food rut (which basically consists of Amy’s frozen dinners and peanut butter). There are tons of amazing new vegan products that I am dying to try, so many in fact that I thought I would compile a list of my top new vegan picks for the new year. And here we go!
Your Vegan Girlfriend’s Top Vegan Products To Try for January 2012
1. Better Than Ricotta Cheese by Tofutti
Vegan lasagna is no longer such a production thanks to the first vegan ricotta cheese alternative, crafted by the wizards of dairy alternative Tofutti! It’s also gluten-free, which clearly is a huge win for me. Anyone who has tasted Tofutti’s cream cheese alternative knows the wonder of this brand and I am sure this ricotta is no different. Mama mia! Italian food is on the menu 🙂
2. Sophie’s Vegan Calamari
Sophie’s Kitchen makes exclusively vegan “seafood” products (strange niche, but totally awesome at the same time) and this is at the top of my to try list. These vegan calamari are breaded and fully cooked, which you deep fry or pan fry for a crispy crust and serve with your favorite dipping sauce. Some siracha or chipotle aoli sounds amazing with these pups. It’s not gluten-free but Sophie’s Kitchen makes vegan shrimp, prawns and squid rings that are. Do I dare to go under the vegan sea? Methinks so.
3. Organic Vegetarian Pho Soup Base
Inspired by the traditional Vietnamese Pho, this organic soup base makes it simple to prepare a delicious, healthy authentic vegan pho at home quickly and easily. I love all of Pacific’s soups and eat them often so I can attest to the overall quality of this brand. This fat-free and gluten-free soup base just needs rice noodles, tofu and/or your favorite condiments added in order to make an amazing vegan meal in minutes. So rad. I’m going to try adding fresh basil, hot chili sauce and green onions when I make this at home. Pho-real.
4. Quron Vegan Burgers
A vegetarian favorite of many with their chick’n and other vegetarian burgers, Quorn has long been off of the vegan radar, as most Quron products contain eggs and/or dairy. Not any more burger babes! Now vegans can experience this raved about brand and rumor has it these veggie burgers rival any frozen variety available. What good vegan doesn’t love a veggie burger (period, amen). Vegan burgers till I dieeeeeeeee.
5. Bee-Free Honee
I eat honey, but for those vegans who do not there is an amazing honey substitute I recently discovered called Bee Free Honee. It is “apple honey” in that it is made from apples rather than by bees and has a slightly tart flavor. Only three all natural ingredients are in this product: apples, vegan quality sugar, and lemon juice. There is nothing artificial, no added color and no corn syrup, hoorah! Even if you eat honey this product would be a great sub for agave and great for baking.
There you have it! I will report back on how these adventurous vegan pursuits go and hopefully will have rave reviews to shortly share. Stay tuned!
